✚ Swans is an
American experimental rock band formed in 1982 by Michael Gira. The band has
gone through various line-up changes over the years, with Gira being the
primary creative force and the only consistent member. Swans' music is known
for its intense and often brutal sound, combining elements of post-punk, noise
rock, industrial, and other experimental genres. Their early releases, such as
"Filth" (1983) and "Cop" (1984), showcased a confrontational
and aggressive style. However, as the band progressed, their sound evolved into
more atmospheric and complex territories, with albums like "Children of
God" (1987) and "White Light from the Mouth of Infinity" (1991).
In 1997, Gira disbanded Swans, but in 2010, he resurrected the band with a new
lineup, and Swans released a series of highly acclaimed albums, including
"My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky" (2010), "The
Seer" (2012), and "To Be Kind" (2014). Swans' live performances
are particularly renowned for their intense and immersive nature, often
featuring long, droning songs and a heavy emphasis on dynamics and repetition.
