✚ Telex is a
Belgian synthpop group that was formed in 1978. It consisted of three main
members: Marc Moulin, Michel Moers, and Dan Lacksman. Their music was
characterized by the use of synthesizers and drum machines, creating an
electronic and minimalist sound. Telex gained recognition with their debut
single released in 1978 titled "Twist à Saint-Tropez." Their music
was often associated with the aesthetics of the New Wave movement and was sung
in French and English. The group achieved international success with their
iconic 1979 hit song "Moskow Diskow." The track became a hit in
several European countries and established Telex as pioneers of electronic
music. Over the years, Telex released several albums, including
"Neurovision" (1980), "Sex" (1981), and "Wonderful
World" (2006). The group also represented Belgium in the Eurovision Song
Contest in 1980 with the song "Euro-Vision." While Telex did not
achieve the same level of commercial success as some other synthpop groups of
the time, they gained significant influence in the electronic music realm.
Their minimalist approach and use of humor in their songs were praised by
critics and inspired many later artists. In 2021, the founding member of the
group, Marc Moulin, passed away. However, Telex continues to leave a lasting
legacy in the history of electronic music.
